A personal opinion. One of millions.
My personal opinions on the topics of gun restriction after the discussions is history class:
Unrelated to the previous post I feel it important to state my stance on the matter, as a blog is a platform on which to share facts and information as well as opinions and ideas:
Our reasons for having guns are either for enjoyment and entertainment in game hunting or to ensure a sense of security. People are scared of each other, and fear is a fierce motivator. The same fear that arms our homes to keep families safe from intruders, arms thieves in convenience stores and banks. That same fear arms prejudiced people who express their feelings of superiority to dissimilar people to themselves in the form of shootings, children with chemical imbalances in their brains who aren't treated and become dangerous to our nation's children, terrorists and numerous others.
Restrictions on weapons intended for military use sold to citizens need to be put into place and people need to be moved into action. This issue runs far deeper than the surface of our national identity. Guns and their availability effect every single human being on this planet. It is also far more complicated to change laws than prejudices. Ideas are changed with education, people need to be exposed to the magnitude of the situation and the mechanical composition of the weapons we are fighting for or against.
We need:
Movement: lawmakers willing to advocate for change.
Education: on how guns work, their effect on the economy, even shared testimonies and opinions from both gun owners and non-gun owners, one needs to hear what people's opinions are based on before they have a chance of proving them otherwise.
Better funding, space and treatment for people who struggle daily with mental illnesses.
Restriction: on what kinds of guns can be sold within our country.
Japan requires all gun owners to go through a very extensive process before they can keep a firearm and the number of shootings there are far less than that of the United States.
That's a really good idea.
There's is SO MUCH that can happen that isn't.
There are SO MANY Americans dead because we have yet to act.
